WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT POSITOUCH WINDOWS VISTA COMPATIBILITY By Chris Odediran
When every new technology is introduced, there is an urge to adopt it as quickly as possible. With the much-delayed Windows Vista now released at the end of January, 2007, many new computers on sale now come with the Windows Vista Operating System. But can you simply buy a new operating system on a business system without finding out about compatibility? It is not advisable. This is why you need information about the relationship between Positouch and Windows Vista
Will Positouch and its third party applications such as Slipstream, Transaction + Server, InControl Training and iControl web work properly on Windows Vista?
All positouch applications have not been properly tested to the point at which we can safely guarantee that a Vista installation will work with all the features of Positouch. The testing is continuing and we plan to let our customers know in the coming months when Positouch is fully compatible with Windows Vista. Switching to Windows Vista is not quick because of the large changes to Microsoft operating systems that Windows Vista has introduced.
Will technical support be available for Positouch version 5.31 and earlier versions running on Windows Vista?
CC Productions will not ordinarily support problems arising from a unilateral decision to arising from an unapproved upgrade to Windows Vista. Our company would not warant nor guarantee that functions within Positouch will work as designed or expected. Customers who proceed to the Vista upgrade do so at their own risk. While every effort will be made to assist our customers, we cannot guarantee support for Windows Vista issues.
Will tech support be available for office computers running Windows Vista without Positouch?
CC Productions may offer limited support if the computer running Windows Vista does not have Positouch installed. However, such support will be billable at our regular rates, and we would not warant nor guarantee that the problem would be resolved to satisfaction. Customers who proceed to the Vista upgrade do so at their own risk, and are advised to contact Microsoft or their computer manufacturer first.
Are there any plans to make Positouch work on Windows Vista?
Yes, Positouch will eventually be Vista compatible. It takes time to test all the features of Positouch under various conditions to become deployment-ready. This process is still going on, and in a few months, Positouch will be ready for Vista.
What will happen if I try to run or install Positouch on Windows Vista?
Generally, Positouch may work with Vista; it is only some of the functionality that will be adversely affected. These functionalities may be critical to your operations, and taking such a risk may affect your business to the point that you would have to revert to an older operating system. CC Productions and RDC do not recommend that you run any of the Positouch versions on Windows Vista. Individual users' experiences may vary, and users must proceed at their own risk.
Are there any workarounds that I can use that will make Positouch run on Windows Vista?
If after these warnings you still decide to runun Positouch on Windows Vista, you must run the Point of Sale application as a Windows Administrator and in Windows XP-compatibility mode to help reduce the possibility of problems. Even then, it is not guaranteed to work effectively. For more information on Windows XP-Compatibility mode and Windows Administrator setup in Windows Vista, please see "Step 4: Run the application in compatibility mode" and "Step 5: Run the application as an administrator" on the Microsoft website at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927386/en-us
Be clearly aware that not all configurations of Positouch will install or launch, even when you are set up as a Windows Administrator and run Positouch in Windows XP Compatibility mode. The software may be affected differently on each computer, depending on whether you are using a new PC that already has Windows Vista installed or you upgrade the operating system of an existing PC to Windows Vista.
If I do an upgrade of a Positouch computer to Windows Vista and run into problems, will my support contract cover the repair?
No. Any changes that occur as a result of an upgrade to an unapproved operating system will be the responsibility of the customer, and is not covered by our support agreement. We will require payment for any services rendered to fix a system broken by the installation of software not approved by us, including Windows Vista.
Can I buy a Vista computer now and upgrade later to Positouch?
Yes, but make sure the computer you buy is Vista Capable. You may have to pay a CC Productions service charge at the time of the upgrade.
Will I be able to use my existing non-Positouch office computer hardware with Windows Vista when the time comes for an upgrade?
It is possible, but CC Productions cannot guarantee that. We will advise you to use the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor available at:
